FlyScreen for Android v1.6 beta preview

Hey guys,

We’ve done quite an overhaul for this version, as you’ll a new UI, different scrolling sensitivity and more!

So we’re seeding it out to you guys to try out, and give us feedback before we upload it to the market. If you get any force closures and any other issues, please report it to feedback@myflyscreen.com (and send in the crash log from the phone if it prompts you to!)

FlyScreen-Twitter downtime

We are experiencing some issues with connections to Twitter. This is affecting both new sign-ups and existing users. We’re looking into it, and will keep everyone posted when it’s (hopefully) fixed!

Unexpected downtime

You’ll notice that there hasn’t been fresh content on FlyScreen for the past 30 min or so. We are working hard on the problem right now, and will update everyone here when we know more, or are hopefully back up!

**Update: (6:15pm EST)** We are back up! So sorry about that! We are adding support for some new things ahead of market launch, so we thank you for your patience!

FlyScreen for Android beta v1.0.0i

Ok guys, this is one of the last before the market release! A lot has changed since v1.0.0a, eh? So what do we have in store for this one?

Change log:

While sharing a headline on Twitter or Facebook, it no longer says just “Saw this on my FlyScreen: (link)” because that was kind of lame- you would have no idea what this link was to. So now, we are adding the headline in the tweet, so people know what kind of link you are sharing!! Go ahead, try it out!
You can now preview the notification bar in FlyScreen! Just tap on the top near the dots, and it will reveal the notification bar for a few seconds. Now you can see if you got a missed call, new email, etc., without having to leave FlyScreen!
A nasty weather bug, now fixed.

FlyScreen for Android beta v1.0.0h

Ok, lots of big, under the hood changes in this one. So we need everyone in the FlyScreenation to give this version a good test run. Cool?

Change log:

We overhauled the settings, and it now looks like a natural Android settings screen. Subtle visual differences, but will perform better ;)
Our first version of Lock Pattern support! If the lock pattern is enabled on your phone, the flow will change to Lock screen —> Pattern Lock —> FlyScreen. Yes, that’s like 3 screens, but you have the choice! It’s our first implementation, so we’ll continue to work on it. If lock pattern is not enabled, then you will have regular, awesome FlyScreen.
Twitter only notifications! (pretty self explanatory, if you’re into that kind of thing)
Choose the alert tone for notifications.
Option to have vibrate on/off for notifications.

FlyScreen for Android beta v1.0.0g

This is a small update, and there’s a good chance there will be another one later today. Just in case, we wanted to release 1.0.0g for you guys to test out.

Change log:

You can disable notifications! (And enable them of course. At leats you have the options now! :)
Zipalign- props to @cswell08 from @modmyflyscreen for this tip. FlyScreen should be at least a little snappier!
Custom error messages. So at least you know why that update didn’t work, and how it wasn’t our fault ;)
Lock issue- now you can’t tweet, post to fb or reply to an SMS without double tapping to activate. Oops, our bad. But now it’s all better and secure.
In the registration screen, you can now choose to show/mask your password. We figured this is better than adding another field to confirm. Typing on a phone still kinda sucks.

FlyScreen for Android beta v1.0.0f

Ok guys- as we keep getting closer and closer to App Market release date, we hope the pre-release builds are getting better and better! We think we’re getting pretty close, and with the amazing feedback and help we are getting from the FlyScreen community (you guys rock!!), we know we’re onto something great!

Change log:

In the registration screen, you can now choose to mask your password or not.
You can now edit the weather widget without having to remove and re-add!! Widget gallery —> Weather —> Edit!
Fixed animation for SMS widget, where the Newer animation was borked. All good now.
The notification in the notification bar gets cleared when you click through.
The names of the custom RSS widgets now show up the in Widget Gallery!
Faster loading times- FlyScreen should pull up a lot faster, loading times should be cut down significantly.

Notifications in the notification bar!! (Note: We know it doesn’t disappear when clicked. We know about this, and will fix it by the next pre-release build.)
Faster loading times. We cut out a lot of unnecessary processing code to make the loading time faster. Hope it helps!
New CBS Local News widget (Los Angeles - Southern California)
Further stabilized the up/down scrolling, to prevent accidental left/right.

FlyScreen for Android Beta v1.0.0b

Yep, the first day up and we have the second pre-release ready for testing! (We’re not getting a lot of sleep…)

The ability to disable the “Double tap to activate”. Note: Use this at your own risk! Some people have requested the ability to turn it off, so we have complied. But if you’re worried about accidental clicks in your pocket, don’t disable it! (To find it, click on the + button —> Settings —> Disable Screen lock.
Twitter Reply/ReTweet Force Close bug. We hope this is fixed this time around. Please be in touch if you still see this problem! (And note: We don’t support 1.6 yet, so if you’re getting this problem on 1.6 let us know, but know that we don’t really support it yet)
General bug/stability fixes.

FlyScreen for Android Beta v1.0.0a

So we decided to branch off the main updates, and allow some of you hardcore fans (awesome!) to get sneak peak access to new features, builds, etc. BUT it comes with great responsibility ;)

When we push out versions on this blog that end with a letter, they are experimental versions meant to be tested before the next main release is put out. So if you’re up for trying out new things and don’t mind some potential instability at time, you’re looking in the right place!

So here is version 1.0.0a: Download here

And for those who don’t know already, the APK will NOT work if you aren’t on the approved beta list yet!! So please don’t complain if logging in doesn’t work! But feel free to write us and ask nicely for access ;)

Changes include:

Memory leak fix, should experience far less force closes.
Fixed tweeting crashes (please confirm this guys!)
Double tap to unlock padlock doesn’t show up every time you open FlyScreen, only when you try to click on something.
Only allowing digits in user name while signing up.
Support for Calendar repeating events!!

Unexpected downtime today- August 24th 2009

Hi all,

We experienced some unexpected downtime today. There was a planned maintenace that went a lot onlger than expected, without our knowledge. We apologize for the downtime, and everything should be back up and running!

Servers down for maintenance for 4 hours

FlyScreen will be down for maintenance for 4 hours, beginning at 5pm EST until 9pm EST today, Saturday 22nd of August. Will keep everyone posted when we’re back up!

Servers back up! If anyone has experienced any problems, please be in touch asap, but looks as though the maintenance went well and everything is back up and running.
